Humanities is the study of what human beings have done, created, and thought throughout recorded history. Humanities recognizes that we can never really see what is going on in the mind and heart of another person. The only way to really explain what we feel or what we think is to show it in some way - through words, pictures, or actions. Humanities sifts back thorugh history, looking at the the things that people have left behind, trying to communicate what they think and what they feel.

It teaches us about our history and about how we got here. Learning humanities is one way of learning where we came from and what it means to be human.

You need to know it because, whether you know it or not, it's a part of you. The way you think, the way you believe, the movies you go to see -- all of those are the result of humanities. You can simply go through life doing what you've been taught by society, or you can learn why you do those things and make smarter choices about what you do and think.
